We live in a rigidly structured society which suppresses us down, turning us into a vehicle of production and consumption. We live in an era of mental health epidemic that is a product of capitalism driving people to sacrifice their needs for immediate gratification. This temporary pleasure serves as a mental distraction from emotional pain caused by traumatic events. Trauma shapes the way we live, love and the way we make sense of the world. Virtually, our suffering, mental illnesses, and physical diseases stem from trauma that distorts our view of reality and perpetrates our unconsciousness in which subsequently we lose control of our behaviours. It leaves us in either fight - freeze or flight mode. It destructively compromises our capacity to be in present moment with ourselves and the environment that surrounds us.

Beneath the Hidden is a poetic portrait of a courageous journey of self-discovery and resilience of 37 years-old Mitchel Ceney. Fully surrendered to the sun-soaked serenity and acceptance, Mitchel travels both mentally and physically to his hometown Derby whilst revisiting childhood memories that unravels a soul-destructive violence and abuse. After several years of being physically and spiritually displaced, in his new house in London he reconnects with creativity and works through his family trauma, gently inviting our ‘modern’ society to reconsider a long-harmful view on addiction and homelessness.
